How to: Fake Address Generator (Test Data)
- Choose a country format and how many records you need.
- Decide whether to include names and emails.
- Download as CSV or JSON for your tests or demo data.
Developers, testers and designers often need realistic-looking addresses to test forms, databases, shipping calculators or demo screens – but using real people’s data is a privacy risk. Fileopia’s generator produces clearly fictional records in seven country formats, with the right postcode shapes, phone formats and address order, using reserved fictional phone ranges and example.com email addresses so nothing can reach a real person. Every file is labelled as test data.
Common uses
- Fill sign-up and checkout forms during manual or automated testing.
- Seed a development or staging database with realistic records.
- Create screenshots and demos that do not expose customer data.
- Test address validation and international postcode formats.
- Prepare sample CSVs for training sessions and spreadsheet tutorials.
Tips for best results
- Generate the country formats your product actually supports.
- Use JSON for test fixtures and CSV for imports into spreadsheets or CRMs.
- Keep test and production data clearly separated – the “TEST DATA” label helps.
- Real address validators may reject these addresses – that is expected and useful for testing failure paths.
- Need more variety? Generate several batches; each is random.
Why not use real data?
Copying real customer records into test environments is one of the most common causes of data leaks, and in many places it conflicts with data-protection laws such as GDPR. Synthetic data avoids this: it looks plausible, exercises the same code paths and contains no personal information. Fictional records also let you share screenshots, bug reports and demos freely without redacting anything.
How the fictional details are made
Each record combines common first and last names with random house numbers, common street names, real-looking cities and postcodes in the correct format for the country. Phone numbers are taken from ranges officially set aside for fiction or never assigned – for example 555-0100 to 555-0199 in the US and Canada, 07700 900xxx in the UK, and the 0491 570 range in Australia. Email addresses always end in @example.com, a domain reserved by the internet standards body for documentation.
Responsible use
The generator is built for software quality and education. It must not be used to deceive businesses, avoid fraud checks, register accounts under a false identity or evade law enforcement. If a service needs your real address for delivery, billing or legal reasons, give it your real one, or use a privacy feature the service provides. Some combinations may coincidentally resemble a real place; never send anything to them.
