How to: Rotate PDF
- Select one or more PDF files.
- Choose the rotation angle.
- Click Start and download the rotated PDF.
Scans and phone photos often end up sideways or upside down. Rotate PDF fixes the orientation permanently so the file opens correctly everywhere.
Common uses
- Fix sideways scanned pages.
- Turn landscape pages for easier reading.
Tips for best results
- To rotate only some pages, use Organize PDF.
Rotating vs re-scanning
Re-scanning a sideways document wastes time and can reduce quality. Rotating a PDF only changes the page orientation instruction stored in the file, so text, images and file size stay exactly the same. The result opens correctly in Adobe Reader, browsers, Preview, phone viewers and printers.
Mixed orientations
Reports often mix portrait text pages with landscape tables or charts. Rotate only the landscape pages with Organize PDF so each page reads naturally on screen, then print with “auto-rotate” enabled.
Batch rotation
Select several PDFs at once and apply the same rotation to all of them – useful when a scanner fed a whole stack of pages in the wrong orientation.
Fix sideways and upside-down pages for good
Scanners, phones and fax machines regularly produce PDFs with pages turned the wrong way: a landscape table lying on its side, a receipt upside down, every second page of a duplex scan rotated. Turning the page in your PDF viewer only changes the view on your screen – the next person who opens the file sees it sideways again. Fileopia writes the new orientation into the PDF itself, so the file opens the right way up everywhere: in Acrobat, Chrome, Preview, on phones and when printed.
It runs entirely in your browser. The PDF is opened on your device, the page rotation is updated and the result is downloaded – nothing is uploaded, which matters for contracts, ID scans and medical letters.
Rotate exactly the pages you need
- All pages – the classic fix for a whole document scanned the wrong way.
- Odd or even pages – correct duplex scans where only the back sides are upside down.
- Landscape pages only / portrait pages only – straighten mixed documents where only the wide tables or drawings are sideways.
- A page range – type 2, 5-7 to turn just those pages.
- 90° clockwise, 180° or 90° counter-clockwise in one click.
- Batch – drop several PDFs and get them all back rotated in one ZIP.
Lossless rotation
Rotation in a PDF is a property of each page. Changing it does not re-render or re-compress anything, so text stays selectable and searchable, links and form fields keep working, and images keep their full quality. The file size barely changes. This is different from tools that convert pages to images and back, which can blur text and bloat the file.
How to rotate a PDF
- Drop one or more PDFs onto the page.
- Choose the angle: 90° clockwise, 180° or 270° (90° counter-clockwise).
- Choose which pages: all, odd, even, landscape, portrait or a range.
- Click Rotate and download. The result tells you how many pages were turned.
Rotating on Mac, Windows and phones
On a Mac, Preview can rotate pages and save the change; on Windows, the free PDF readers generally only rotate the view. This tool works the same on every system, including Chromebooks, Android phones and iPhones, without installing anything. For individual pages that need different angles, use Organize PDF, where every thumbnail has its own rotate button.
Common uses
- Straightening scanned contracts before e-mailing them.
- Fixing landscape spreadsheets printed into a portrait report.
- Correcting phone photos of documents converted with JPG to PDF.
- Preparing files for printing or for Merge PDF, so every page faces the same way.
- Making scanned books readable on tablets.
Tips
- If a page looks right in one viewer but wrong in another, the PDF may have an unusual rotation flag – rotating 360° (90° four times) normalises it.
- Scanned pages that are slightly crooked (a few degrees) need straightening, not rotation – try Deskew PDF.
- Password-protected PDF? Open it with Unlock PDF first if you know the password.
