How to: Video to Audio Converter
- Choose a video file from your phone or computer.
- Pick MP3 or WAV and the quality.
- Download the audio file.
Often the part of a video you want is the sound: a lecture, a podcast recorded on camera, a song you performed, an interview or a voice memo filmed on your phone. Fileopia’s video to audio converter pulls the soundtrack out and saves it as a compact MP3 or a lossless WAV. It runs entirely inside your browser, so files are not uploaded, there is no queue and there is no artificial size limit beyond your device’s memory.
Common uses
- Turn a recorded lecture or webinar into audio for listening on the go.
- Extract a podcast or interview recorded on video.
- Save the audio of your own performance or rehearsal.
- Get a voice track for transcription or subtitles.
- Make a ringtone or sound clip from a video you filmed.
Tips for best results
- 192 kbps MP3 is a good balance of quality and size for music; 96–128 kbps is plenty for speech.
- Choose WAV if you will edit the audio further.
- Large videos are fine on desktop; phones may struggle above about 1 GB.
- Use the audio cutter afterwards to trim silence or pick a section.
- Only extract audio from videos you own or have permission to use.
How extraction works
A video file is a container holding separate video and audio streams. The converter asks your browser to decode just the audio stream into raw samples, then encodes those samples into the format you chose. The video pictures are never processed, which makes it much faster than full video conversion. Because it re-encodes, you can freely pick the bitrate and format rather than being stuck with what the camera recorded.
Choosing a format
MP3 plays on every phone, car stereo and computer, so it is the default. A higher bitrate such as 256 or 320 kbps keeps more detail for music, while 96–128 kbps is plenty for a voice recording and keeps files small without audible loss. WAV is uncompressed and ideal for editing or archiving, but files are about ten times larger. A 22 kHz sample rate halves the size of speech recordings with little audible difference.
Copyright and fair use
Extracting audio from your own recordings, lectures you are allowed to keep, or freely licensed videos is fine. Ripping music or soundtracks from commercial films, streaming services or other people’s videos may infringe copyright, depending on where you live and how you use the result. Personal use rules vary by country; when in doubt, use content you created or that is clearly licensed for reuse.

Frequently asked questions
Is my video uploaded?
No. The audio track is decoded and encoded on your own device, so even private recordings stay private.
Which video formats are supported?
Anything your browser can decode – typically MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM and MKV with common audio codecs such as AAC, Opus and MP3.
Can I convert a YouTube link?
No – the tool works with files on your device. Downloading from YouTube is against its terms of service.
Will the audio quality drop?
Re-encoding to MP3 is lossy, but at 192 kbps or higher the difference from the original is usually inaudible.
Can I extract only part of the video?
Convert the whole track, then trim it with the audio cutter on this site.
Is Video to Audio Converter really free?
Yes. Every tool on Fileopia is 100% free with no file limits, no sign-up and no watermarks. The site is supported by unobtrusive ads.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Fileopia processes your files directly in your browser using JavaScript. Your documents never leave your device, so they stay completely private.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. Fileopia works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows, Mac and Linux.
