How to: To-Do List
- Type a task and press Enter – add a due date and priority if you like.
- Tick tasks off, edit them or move them up and down.
- Filter or sort the list, and download it whenever you want.
Most to-do apps want an account, a subscription or your email address. Sometimes you just want a list. Fileopia’s to-do list opens instantly, keeps your tasks in your browser, and has just enough features to stay useful: priorities, due dates, filters for today and overdue, sorting and export to Markdown, text or CSV. There are no ads in the list and nothing is sent to a server.
Common uses
- Keep a daily or weekly task list on your work computer.
- Plan a move, trip, event or project step by step.
- Track homework and revision tasks with due dates.
- Make a shopping or packing checklist you can print or export.
- Collect quick tasks during a meeting and export them afterwards.
Tips for best results
- Give each task a clear verb: “Email Sam the invoice” beats “invoice”.
- Use the “Due today or overdue” filter each morning.
- Keep high priority for no more than three tasks a day.
- Export your list regularly if it matters – browser data can be cleared.
- Move finished-task review to Friday: clear completed items for a fresh week.
Simple systems work best
Productivity research consistently finds that the best system is the one you actually use. A quick, distraction-free list lowers the effort of capturing tasks, which is the key habit. Write tasks down as soon as they occur to you, pick the few that matter most each day, and tick them off. The sense of progress from completed tasks is itself motivating, which is why completed items stay visible until you clear them.
Priorities and due dates
Set a priority of high, normal or low, and an optional due date. Sorting by priority puts the most important work first; sorting by due date shows what is coming up. The “today” filter shows tasks due today plus anything overdue, which makes a good daily starting point. Overdue tasks are highlighted, a gentle reminder to either do them, reschedule them or decide they no longer matter.
Exporting your tasks
The Markdown checklist export uses “- [ ]” and “- [x]” syntax, which renders as checkboxes in GitHub, Notion, Obsidian and many note apps. Plain text is easy to paste into email or chat. CSV opens in Excel, Google Sheets and project-management tools for bulk import. Because your list lives in this browser, exporting is also your backup – keep a copy before clearing browsing data or switching computers.
