RTF is Rich Text Format – the universal word-processor format that opens in Word, WordPad, TextEdit, LibreOffice, Pages and Google Docs. Fileopia turns a PDF into a clean, editable RTF document directly in your browser – reading order, headings, bold/italic, lists, tables and images are reconstructed.
Common uses
- Edit a PDF in LibreOffice, WordPad or TextEdit without Microsoft Word.
- Submit documents to offices that require ODF or RTF.
- Recover the text of scanned letters with OCR.
- Re-use content from reports and brochures.
Tips for best results
- Choose the correct OCR language for scanned pages.
- Multi-column pages are converted in reading order; check headings afterwards.
- For a perfect visual copy, use PDF to Word (Exact layout).
How it works
pdf.js extracts every text run with its font, size and position; the same engine as our PDF to Word tool groups runs into lines, paragraphs, columns and tables, detects headings by size and weight, and embeds images. The document is then written as RTF – entirely on your device.
Compared with iLovePDF, Smallpdf, Adobe and Sejda
Most of them don’t offer RTF output at all, or only via upload with daily limits (Sejda: 3 tasks per hour, 50 MB; Smallpdf: a couple per day). OCR is usually a paid feature – here it is free and local.
