How to: PDF Page Counter
- Select one or more PDF files.
- See the number of pages and page sizes for each file and the grand total.
- Download the results as a CSV spreadsheet.
Need to know how many pages are in a batch of PDFs before printing, quoting a translation or uploading to a portal? Select all the files at once and the counter reads each document, shows its page count, file size and page formats, and adds everything up. Export the table to CSV to paste into a quote, invoice or spreadsheet.
Common uses
- Estimate printing costs for a stack of documents.
- Prepare quotes for translation, transcription or scanning per page.
- Check page limits before submitting theses, applications or court filings.
- Audit a folder of scanned documents.
Tips for best results
- Select a whole folder of PDFs at once with Ctrl+A or Cmd+A in the file picker.
- Turn off page sizes for very large batches to make counting faster.
- Use the CSV in Excel or Google Sheets to calculate costs per page.
- Mixed sizes in one file often indicate inserted scans or fold-outs.
How pages are counted
The counter opens each PDF with the same engine used by Firefox's built-in viewer and reads the page tree, so the number matches what any PDF reader shows. Page sizes are measured in millimetres from each page's media box and recognised as A4, US Letter or Legal when they match within a few millimetres.
Large batches
Files are processed one at a time to keep memory use low, and progress is shown as each file is counted. Hundreds of PDFs can be counted in a single run on a normal laptop.
Private by design
Documents are read locally in your browser and never uploaded, which makes the counter safe for confidential contracts and records.

Frequently asked questions
Why would I need a page count
Print shops, translators, legal teams and scanning services often charge per page, and many submission portals set page limits. Counting dozens of files by opening each one is slow; this tool gives the total in seconds.
Can it count password-protected PDFs
Files that need a password to open are listed as protected and are not counted. Remove the password with Unlock PDF first if you know it.
Is PDF Page Counter really free?
Yes. Every tool on Fileopia is 100% free with no file limits, no sign-up and no watermarks. The site is supported by unobtrusive ads.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Fileopia processes your files directly in your browser using JavaScript. Your documents never leave your device, so they stay completely private.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. Fileopia works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows, Mac and Linux.
