How to: Merge PDF
- Select or drop the PDF files you want to combine.
- Reorder them with the Up/Down buttons.
- Click Start and download your merged PDF.
Merging PDFs is the quickest way to turn scattered documents – scans, invoices, chapters, forms – into one tidy file that is easy to share, print and archive. Fileopia joins your files right inside your browser, so even confidential contracts or ID scans never touch a server.
Common uses
- Combine a scanned passport, ID and application form into one PDF for an online application.
- Join monthly invoices or bank statements into a single file for your accountant.
- Put together chapters, a cover page and an appendix into one report or thesis.
- Merge several signed pages back into the full contract.
Tips for best results
- Sort files into the right order before you click Start – use the Up/Down buttons.
- If the final file is too large for email, run it through Compress PDF afterwards.
- Need only some pages from each file? Split or Extract pages first, then merge.
Combine PDF files in the order you want
Add two or more PDFs, drag the file cards into the order you need – or use the sort button to order them alphabetically – and press Merge. Fileopia copies every page into a new document without re-encoding anything, so text, links, fonts and image quality are preserved exactly. The merge happens inside your browser, which means a 300-page bundle of confidential contracts never touches a server.
- Mix PDFs and images – JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF, GIF and BMP files are added as pages, so you can append a photographed receipt to an expense report in one go.
- A bookmark for each file – the merged PDF gets an outline entry named after each source file, so readers can jump straight to ‘Invoice‑March’ or ‘Chapter 3’ in any PDF viewer.
- Blank-page separators – optionally insert an empty page between files, handy for printing sections.
- Even page padding for duplex printing – pads each file to an even page count so every document starts on a new sheet when printed double-sided.
How to merge PDFs offline
Once this page has loaded you can disconnect from the internet and keep merging – the pdf-lib engine that does the work is already in your browser. That makes Fileopia a practical offline PDF merger on a train, in a secure office network or anywhere connectivity is poor, without installing software.
Merging on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android
Because it is a web page, the same tool works in Safari on macOS and iOS, Chrome or Edge on Windows, and Chrome on Android. On a phone, tap the upload area to choose files from Files, Photos or Google Drive; the merged PDF is saved to your downloads. macOS users can also merge in Preview, but Fileopia is quicker when the files come from different folders or include images.
Can I merge files stored in Google Drive?
Yes – download them first, or on Android and iOS pick them directly from the Drive provider in the file picker. The files are read locally; Fileopia never asks for access to your Drive account.
Reducing the size of a merged PDF
Merging adds sizes together: three 4 MB scans make a 12 MB PDF. If that is too large for e-mail, run the result through Compress PDF or a fixed-size tool like Compress PDF to 1 MB. Compressing once after merging is faster than compressing every part.
Merging Word, Excel or PowerPoint files
Convert them to PDF first with Word to PDF, Excel to PDF or PowerPoint to PDF – all of which also run locally – and then merge the PDFs here. Need to reorder or remove individual pages after merging? Use Organize PDF.
Tips for a tidy merged document
- Name files before merging – the names become bookmarks, so ‘01 Cover’, ‘02 Report’ is better than ‘scan0043’.
- Use the A–Z sort when files are numbered, then fine-tune by dragging.
- Rotate sideways pages afterwards with Rotate PDF, and add page numbers once the final order is set.
- Turn on even page padding before printing double-sided bundles.
