How to: Remove EXIF Data

  1. Upload one or more photos.
  2. Keep or remove the colour profile and orientation.
  3. Download clean photos with metadata removed.

Photos from phones often contain the GPS position where they were taken, the device model, serial numbers and editing history. Posting such a photo online or sending it to a stranger can reveal where you live or work. This tool removes that metadata from a whole batch of photos in seconds, without re-encoding or losing any quality.

Common uses

Tips for best results

Lossless removal

JPEG files are made of segments: EXIF, XMP, IPTC and comments are stored in separate application segments, which this tool drops while copying the image segments as they are. PNG and WEBP use named chunks, and the text, EXIF and XMP chunks are removed in the same way. Other formats are re-encoded as PNG.

Private by design

It would be ironic to upload private photos to remove private data. Everything happens in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Does removing EXIF reduce quality

No. For JPEG, PNG and WEBP the metadata blocks are cut out of the file and the compressed image data is copied unchanged, so quality is identical to the original.

Why keep orientation

Phones often store photos sideways and use an EXIF flag to display them upright. Keeping only that flag means your photos do not suddenly appear rotated, while everything else, including GPS, is removed.

Is Remove EXIF Data really free?

Yes. Every tool on Fileopia is 100% free with no file limits, no sign-up and no watermarks. The site is supported by unobtrusive ads.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Fileopia processes your files directly in your browser using JavaScript. Your documents never leave your device, so they stay completely private.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. Fileopia works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows, Mac and Linux.
